Who is the Befriending Grief Community for? Befriending Grief is for anyone navigating loss, change, an ending, or a significant life transition. Your grief may be recent or many years old. You may be grieving a death, relationship, health change, identity, dream, role, or simply the life you thought you would be living. There is no timeline - and no hierarchy of loss here.
What if my loss isn't related to a death? You absolutely belong. Grief is a natural response to loss, and loss takes many forms. This community makes room for the often-unrecognized grief that accompanies endings, transitions, and becoming a new version of ourselves.
What if I'm not sure I'm ready to join a grief community? That's okay. You don't need to arrive ready to share your story or participate in everything. You are welcome to begin quietly, explore the resources, attend a gathering, listen, and find your own way into the community at your own pace.
Do I have to attend the live gatherings? Not at all. Live gatherings offer a beautiful opportunity for connection, but the community is designed to support different seasons of participation. Come when it feels supportive and step back when you need more space.
What happens inside the community? Each month we explore a seasonal theme through practices for the mind, body, breath, creativity, and ritual. You'll find live gatherings, guided practices, reflections, meditations, gentle movement, rituals, workshops, resources, and opportunities to connect with others navigating their own grief and transitions.
Is this therapy or a grief support group? Befriending Grief is a peer-support, educational, and experiential community rather than therapy or clinical mental health treatment. It is a place to explore grief, learn supportive practices, connect with others, and be witnessed without advice, fixing, or expectations about how you should grieve.
What if I don't consider myself spiritual? You are welcome. While our practices may draw inspiration from mindfulness, ritual, nature, and contemplative traditions, there is no particular spiritual or religious belief required. Take what resonates and leave what doesn't.
What if I've been grieving for years? There is no expiration date on grief. Loss continues to evolve as we do, and sometimes an old grief meets us differently in a new season of life. You are welcome whether your loss happened last week, last year, or decades ago.
